Bachelor Nation, the time has come: “Bachelor in Paradise” is back, baby, with a two-night premiere event. And so are all your favorite (kind of) contestants from seasons past.
For the uninitiated: “Bachelor in Paradise” functions differently than your more standard “Bachelor” or “Bachelorette” season. These people aren’t competing for the heart of one person; they’re trying to couple up or get sent packing.
Each week, the men and women will alternate handing out roses. (Week 1 it’s the men.)
So: Who do we re-meet during Episode 1? You probably recognize most of them from their robust Instagram presence:
Hannah G. (Colton’s season)
Blake (Becca’s season)
Katie (Colton’s season)
Dylan (Hannah’s season)
Sydney (Colton’s season)
Derek (JoJo’s season)
Tayshia (Colton’s season)
Kevin (Hannah’s season)
Wills (Becca’s season)
Demi (Colton’s season)
Onyeka (Colton’s season)
Cam (Hannah’s season)
John Paul Jones (Hannah’s season)
Chris B. (this is now his sixth appearance on the franchise)
Jane (Colton’s season)
Annaliese (Arie’s season)
Nicole (Colton’s season)
Bibiana (Arie’s season)
Clay (Becca’s season)
Caelynn (Colton’s season)
Kristina (Nick’s season)
Ogling, flirting and trash-talking quickly commence. What did you expect?

Demi explores her sexuality
We knew this season of “Bachelor in Paradise” would feature a same-sex romance (the first for the franchise) … though we’re still not sure how that’s all going to unfold. Demi chats with “Bachelorette” Hannah before “Paradise” and lets her know she’s seeing someone who happens to be a woman.
“It’s not something that I need to label,” Demi says, adding she doesn’t feel she needs to call herself gay, straight or bisexual. “I just like who I like.” Demi clarifies she and the woman aren’t exclusive, nor are they officially together.
But before that can happen, Demi develops a flirtation with Derek (who previously got engaged on the show), and the two later make out in a hot tub. Meh. We’re looking forward to when the queer romance begins.

The battle for (and against) Blake
It doesn’t take long for Blake and Hannah G. to connect, though when he’s given the season’s first date card, he surprises everyone when he asks Tayshia out on a date. Dylan is thrilled because he has feelings for Hannah G., and snags some alone time with her as a result. A solid move, though don’t count out Blake’s charms.
He and Tayshia go out to dinner and it’s easy to see how he can make someone feel special. He reflects on all the contestants’ capacity for love amid rejection: “If you can love the wrong person that much, how much will you be able to love the right person?” Our hearts nearly melted. That’s because we learn over the course of the episode that Blake is more than meets the eye – and not in a good way.
When Caelynn arrives, she reveals that she and Blake had a bit of a fling but that it didn’t end well. He asked her to keep their romance a secret, though she begins telling a few cast members (and bartender Wells). She doesn’t tell Tayshia.
More details pour out over the course of the episode: Caelynn explains that Colton actually set the pair up, and that they hooked up at the Stagecoach Music Festival. (Both were indeed in attendance this year, at least according to their Instagram posts in April.) But after their tryst, he revealed he slept with fellow “Bachelor” franchise contestant and “Paradise” star Kristina, from Nick’s season, the night before. (She was also at Stagecoach.) Blake also ghosted Caelynn and was even DMing Hannah G. while they were still in bed together. Didn’t think all this through very well, did you, Blake?
“Everywhere I look everyone’s talking about how great Blake is, how cute Blake is, how sweet Blake is,” Caelynn says. “And I’m like, ‘If you only knew.’ “
Kristina (naturally) arrives on the scene herself, tells host Chris Harrison she and Blake went out and scores the second date card … and asks Blake out! But this isn’t what we think, necessarily: Kristina knows about Blake and Caelynn. “Today I’m going to make Blake my bitch,” Kristina says.

Elsewhere in ‘Paradise’
The other contestants try to make a splash, though the Caelynn-Blake-Kristina triangle is what gets the most air time. (Or at least it feels that way.)
Other story lines we’re keeping our eyes on: Onyeka sets her sights on Speedo-wearing John Paul Jones, though he doesn’t seem too keen on looking her way; Annaliese, close with Clay’s ex, Angela, thinks it’s too soon for him to be on the show; and “Bachelorette” Hannah and one of her rejects, Mike, are due to make an appearance, based on a teaser.
